This is day 18 . I weighted in this morning at 217.4 - my goal weight in 85days is 170. That will be a total of 52pounds in 85 days.
As you can see-I hit a stall over the past week or so. Now I am adding an hour of exercise to see if that will jump start me back on the weight loss. I am also working on getting in the habit of drinking half a gallon of water before noon each day. This is not the easiest thing but I am doing it! I drink like a cup every 30 minutes or so. Over all I feel better. I decided to only write in this blog once or twice a week instead of everyday. That kinda makes the process go faster for me. I've also decided to stick strictly to green smoothies and water for the rest of the 85 days. no salad or beans. Hopefully this will make my weight-loss go faster also. Well this is what seems to be working for me, but you have to find the path that works best for you. I am looking forward to getting back in my skinny jeans. Hope to be wearing a pair to thanksgiving dinner. I will post a picture that day! Anyway stay active-raw & green!

I am glad to be back on the downward track in my weightloss today. I now know that any unauthorized cooked food will slow down my process. I am presently about 80/20 in my raw lifestyle. I plan to eventually go about 98/2. As i think i still need some cooked beans in my diet. But each person is different, each body type is different and this is not a one size fits all plan. However it is universal that if you eat less and eat clean and the right foods you will release the weight. I like the word release better than the word loose. I don't want to find it again, so ... anyway. i am back on track today! next week i will add the exercise.

That fish from 2 days ago gave me a sluggish night and 2 pounds came back! Oh I already kicked myself and now I am picking myself up and getting back on this wagon. I am determined to beat this addiction to cooked foods. I discovered I need more water. I wanted to know why water was so important so I did a bit of research. And I discovered that water IS THE KEY to my weight loss success.

How 8 Glasses a Day Keeps Fat Away
Incredible as it may seem, water is quite possibly the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off. Although most of us take for granted, water may be the only true "magic potion" for permanent weight loss.

Water supresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolize stored fat. Studies have shown that a decrease in water intake will cause fat deposits to increase, while an increase in water intake can actually reduce fat deposits.

Here's why: The kidneys can't function properly without enough water. When they don't work to capacity, some of their load is dumped onto the liver. One of the liver's primary functions is to metabolize stored fat into usable energy for the body. But if the liver has to do some of the kidney's work it can't operate at full throttle. As a result, it metabolizes less fat more fat remains stored in the body and weight loss stops.

Drinking enough water is the best treatment for fluid retention. When the body gets less water,it perceives this as a threat to survival and begins to hold on to every drop. Water is stored in extracellular spaces (outside the cell). This shows up as swollen feet, legs and hands.

Diuretics offer a temporary solution at best. They force out stored water along with some essential nutrients. Again, the body perceives a treat and will replace the lost water at the first opportunity. Thus, the condition quickly returns.

The best way to overcome the problem of water retention is to give your body what it needs -- plenty of water. Only then will stored water be released.

I had a very strong desire for seafood today and i gave in to long john silver. I ate 3 pieces of breaded fish, and the minute i finished i had total regret. it tasted different, it was not as good as i had remembered it in the past. i could taste the flour so strongly, and once i was finished i felt so sluggish and sad. I learned that there was more breaded battered flour than fish in that dish. That is something i had never realized before. I wanted to throw it back up the moment i finished but it was too late. I had to live with that heavy bread batter in my stomach for what seemed like forever. i was sluggish and unhappy the whole night. And I am sure it will probably slow my weightloss as well. I now fully realize how addicted to cooked food I am and I am even more determined to complete this journey of transition to a rawfood lifestyle.

I know those things are truly no good for me now and I refuse to mess up the progress i am making. I have to beat this thing this time. i have been down this kind of road so many times in my life. And this time will be different because this is not a diet it is a lifestyle change. Over all i feel great, i am drinking water til 11am then i will have a fruit smoothie for breakfast.

Today I am feeling a bit sluggish, but over all I feel good. I am totally off the sugar sweeties-- I think.. But at night it is still hard to pass them up but i do. I seem to be sleeping better at night and waking earlier and more refreshed. So over all I am wonderful. I think I am going to lay down for a minute and take a short nap.

Some thoughts I have...to explore
  • You can't get toxic out if you continue to put toxic in.
  • The energy of your food becomes your mind
  • This is not a diet, this is a lifestyle change
  • Cleaning up clutter in the house will also help detox your body
  • Do I take time to meditate enough?
  • Am I keeping a positive outlook?
  • Am I on the path that resonates with my energy?

well today has been good and hard. I threw up my morning smoothie. i think i had already drank too much water.
Later I went ahead and ate some fresh strawberries, cherries and grapes all in that order. Then i crunched down on some Pistachios. So I am good and full. I think I need to slow it down a bit. I was driving when I got a sick stomach so that might have had something to do with it. Over all it's a good day. I am going to watch food inc to keep me motivated. Then take a nap.

    Hungry? Choose pistachios.

    The Smart Snack

Hungry? Choose pistachios. Among nuts, pistachios are one of the most nutritious. A one-ounce serving of pistachios, with 49 kernels and 170 calories, gives you a variety of different vitamins, minerals, and other beneficial nutrients.

A Victory for Vitamins and Minerals

Pistachios are an excellent source of vitamin B6, copper and manganese; important vitamins and minerals for the body. The little nut also provides potassium and is a good source of phophorus and magnesium.

    Antioxidant Powerhouse

Pistachios are antioxidant powerhouses, which is great for helping to fight against free radicals. In a USDA study, pistachios were placed in the group with the highest antioxidant capacity, as compared to over 100 different foods.

    Fabulous Fiber

Most Americans aren’t getting enough fiber. Luckily, a snack of crunchy pistachios can provide three grams of dietary fiber, or about 12% of the recommended daily value. That’s about the same amount as in a serving of oatmeal!

.I had an Epiphany this morning. I finally came to the realization that you can not get toxic out if you continue to put toxic in. Now this journey is more than just loosing the weight. This journey is about regaining a healthy body and reversing the damage that processed food has caused to my body. It's not just about fitting into my thin clothes anymore. That is just one of the bottom rewards of getting off the MSG laden foods. I now realize that the food and drug administrations work hand in hand. That is why you get 5 mintues of your tv show and 15 minutes of commercials and all commercials are either trying to entice you to eat more processed food or buy more drugs. It is a continual brainwashing. But that is where the money is. The pharmaceutical industry is a multi-billion dollar industry. The government are the biggest drug pushers in the world. And it all ties in with the food we eat. The MSG in the food is very addictive. That is why we are addicted to fast foods. MSG is in all processed food. The only food that doesn't have MSG is the food not many Americans are eating. The organic fruits and veggies. Most Americans eat the standard American diet. S>A>D>
and we thing that food does matter. we are literally killing our kids with McDonald and burger king. Why do so many children have ADD? Because they all eat the same S>A>D> food. And the really sad thing is no one wants to hear or know the truth about food. No one wants to give up their addictive food. Including me. But I have decided that my health is the most important thing. I am going to change my lifestyle and believe me i am not finding this to be easy but I know that it must be done if I want to live a long and healthy life. I hope you will take a few minutes and watch The beautiful truth on youtube.
If you care about your health and your future. It will change your life for sure.

So I decided to do my own green smoothie experiment for the next 85 days.
This is day one. I weighted in this morning at 222.4- my goal weight in 85days is 170. That will be a total of 52pounds in 85 days.

My ultimate goal weight is 130lbs by June of 2012
I have broken my journey down into 3 phases. The smoothie experiment is phase one to detox and transition to a raw food lifestyle.
Phase two will be focusing in on exercise and fitness.

And phase three will be focused on maintaining a rawfood lifestyle and recipes and such. So this blog will continue after the green smoothie experiment and follow my progress until i no longer feel the need to have this blog.

I have been drinking the greens all day today and drinking a lot of water. I will be aiming for somewhere around 14-16 glasses of water per day. Today-I feel good for a while and then I feel horrible for a while. I had to lay down a lot today. I know my body is detoxing. And the poop-- there has been a lot of consistent poop. Funny thing is it doesn't really smell bad at all. It looks like large bananas in size and green like the smoothie in color.

Over all I feel wonderful I know this is a time for me to cleanse my body and get this weight off too. I have decided to make a lifestyle change this time. I am not going back to my SAD diet anymore.( thats standard American diet for those who don't know) All that processed food and dead food. I am going to eat live from now on. Salad is the main dish from now on. And greens in-particular.

I don't think I can go totally raw food right now, but I am going to try to start somewhere around 70/30. Once I start to feel better in a week or so, I will add an exercise routine.

Drink to better bones, help for your heart and an improved immune system—you get it all in this delicious Vitamix green smoothie!

Kale may not be the first thing you think of when it comes to making a great smoothie—but it is definitely one of the best! Dark leafy green kale is packed with calcium in a form that the body finds easier to digest than milk—and that’s a real bonus for your bones. Pair these nutritious but bitter leaves with pear, green grapes, and orange and a banana, and you get a surprisingly sweet smoothie that is absolutely loaded with nutrition.

Green grapes may help improve circulation and prevent blood clots—and the seeds contain protective flavinol compounds that fight free radicals and repair connective tissues. Oranges protect against colds, flu, heart disease and strokes with a big vitamin C immune boost. Bananas are a smoothie staple, but they are packed with cholesterol calming potassium.

    Yield: 4 cups (960 ml)
    Speed: Variable to High
    Time: 1 1/2 minutes

    • 1 cup green grapes

    • 1 (130 g) orange, peeled

    • 1/2 Bartlett pear

    • 1 (120 g) banana, fresh or frozen

    • 1 cup kale

    • 1/2 cup water

    • 2 cups ice cubes

We now present two of the Diet's special, signature foods: "super" foods that contribute immensely to healing and building your inner ecosystem. On this page, raw cultured vegetables, then, read about kefir from the water of young green coconuts.

*From the 9th edition Body Ecology Diet, by Donna Gates.*

Cultured vegetables are made by shredding cabbage or a combination of cabbage and other vegetables and then packing them tightly into an airtight container. They are left to ferment at room temperature for several days or longer. Friendly bacteria naturally present in the vegetables quickly lower the pH, making a more acidic environment so the bacteria can reproduce. The vegetables become soft, delicious, and somewhat "pickled."

The airtight container can be glass or stainless steel. Use a 1 to 1½ quart container that seals with a rubber or plastic ring and a clamp down lid. Room temperature means 72 degrees Fahrenheit, for at least 3 days. We prefer to let ours sit for six or seven days. You can taste them at different stages and decide for yourself.

In the winter months if your kitchen temperature falls below 70 degrees, wrap the container in a towel and place it inside an insulated or thermal chest. In the summer months the veggies culture faster. They may be ready in just three or four days.

During this fermentation period, the friendly bacteria are having a heyday, reproducing and converting sugars and starches to lactic acid. Once the initial process is over, it is time to slow down the bacterial activity by putting the cultured veggies in the refrigerator. The cold greatly slows the fermentation, but does not stop it completely. Even if the veggies sit in your refrigerator for months, they will not spoil; instead they become more like fine wine, more delicious with time. Properly made, cultured vegetables have at least an eight month shelf life.

While it is not necessary to add a "starter culture" to your vegetables, we recommend that you do it just to ensure that your vegetables begin fermenting with a hardy strain of beneficial bacteria. Body Ecology s Cultured Vegetable Starter contains a very robust bacterium called L. Plantarum. (See our recipes below.)

Enjoying the Fruits of Your Labor

Once you master the basic technique, be creative. Try different vegetable combinations, and include dark green leafy vegetables like kale and collards. Soak, drain, and chop up some ocean vegetables like dulse, wakame, hijiki, and arame. Add your favorite herbs (dried or fresh), seeds (dill or caraway), and juniper berries. Even lemon juice can be added to the "brine." Try leaving out the cabbage all together and making a batch of cultured daikon.

Cynthia Hamilton, a friend of Donna s who lives in Los Angeles, teaches classes on how to make cultured vegetables, and she also sells them, calling them a "probiotic salad". Cynthia recently surprised Donna with a new recipe using kohlrabi, celery, garlic, ginger, and a green apple. It tastes wonderful! Don t be afraid of the little bit of sugar in the green apple. The microflora use it for food. The sugar will be long gone before you eat the cultured veggies. If you create a great new recipe you want to share with others on the B.E.D. around the world, please write or email us and we will happily post it on our Web site.

You may be thinking that making cultured veggies amounts to a big hassle. Well, it is possible to buy them commercially (see our Shopping List), but store-bought amounts can be fairly small and too costly for many people. You wouldn t be getting the "therapeutic amounts" you reap by making your own. So here s a suggestion: plan a "CV Party" with your family and friends. Gather on a weekend afternoon to laugh together, chop and pack the veggies. Make sure everyone leaves with enough containers to last until the next party. You and your loved ones will enjoy many meals of one of the most medicinal and economical foods you ll ever eat.

Two of Our Favorite Beginners Recipes

One important secret to making really delicious yet medicinal cultured veggies is to use freshly harvested, organic, well-cleaned vegetables. After washing the veggies, spin them dry. Clean equipment is essential. Scald everything you use in very hot water.

    Version 1

    • 3 heads green cabbage, shredded in a food processor
    • 1 bunch kale, chopped by hand(optional): 2 cups wakame ocean vegetables (measured after soaking), drained, spine removed, and chopped
    • 1 Tbsp. dill seed

    Version 2

    • 3 heads green cabbage, shredded in a food processor
    • 6 carrots, large, shredded in a food processor
    • 3 inch piece ginger, peeled and chopped
    • 6 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped

    To make Cultured Vegetables

    1. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl.
    2. Remove several cups of this mixture and put into a blender.
    3. Add enough filtered water to make a "brine" the consistency of a thick juice. Blend well and then add brine back into first mixture. Stir well.
    4. Pack mixture down into a 1½ quart glass or stainless steel container. Use your fist, a wooden dowel, or a potato masher to pack veggies tightly.
    5. Fill container almost full, but leave about 2 inches of room at the top for veggies to expand.
    6. Roll up several cabbage leaves into a tight "log" and place them on top to fill the remaining 2 inch space. Clamp jar closed.
    7. Let veggies sit at about a 70 degree room temperature for at least three days. A week is even better. Refrigerate to slow down fermentation. Enjoy!

To use Body Ecology's Culture Starter:

Dissolve one or two packages of starter culture in 1½ cup warm (90*) water. Add aproximately 1 tsp. of some form of sugar to feed the starter (try Rapadura, Sucanat, honey, Agave, or EcoBLOOM). Let starter/sugar mixture sit for about 20 minutes or longer while the L. Plantarum and other bacteria wake up and begin enjoying the sugar. Add this starter culture to the brine (step 3).

    What is Spirulina?

Spirulina (Spirulina Plantensis) is a microscopic freshwater plant, an aquatic micro-vegetable/organism composed of transparent bubble-thin cells stacked end-to-end forming a helical spiral filament.

It is a whole-food, not a concentrate, not an extract. It is detoxifying. A person can not eat too much and overdose on Spirulina. It contains more bio-chelated organic iron than any other whole-food. Bio-chelated means that the iron will easily be assimilated into the body. Spirulina has 58 times the iron of raw spinach and 28 times that of raw beef liver.

It contains more beta-carotene than any other whole food. Beta-carotene determines how our cells communicate with one another. "Beta carotene opens the membrane communication channels of cancerous and pre-cancerous cells, allowing the body to signal the cancerous cells to stop dividing. Therefore, foods rich in beta carotene may not only be able to prevent but also reverse cancers. (Wolf 1992)" (Spirulina, Nature's Superfood). Research as demonstrated that beta-carotene can lower cholesterol, treat wounds and reduce the size of tumors. Natural beta-carotene is far superior to synthetic, both chemically and physically. It absorbs better into the body than synthetic and it will NOT build up in the body and become toxic. There are NO toxic side effects with Spirulina the way there are with other blue green algae such as AFA (Afanzamon Flos Aqua, commonly known as Bluegreen Algae).

It is the richest source of natural antioxidants of any whole-food source. It contains every natural known antioxidant including zinc, manganese, selenium and copper, the amino acid methionine, vitamin E, vitamins B-1 and B-6, the amino acid methionine and of course, beta-carotene. It is rich in chlorophyll, much richer than wheat grass and alfalfa.

Spirulina contains more Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) than any other whole-food source.

Phycocyanin, which is the natural blue pigment of Spirulina, is not found in any other food on the planet.

Glycolipid, which is found in Spirulina, have been found to be active against the AIDS virus (Boyd et al 1989).

I get mine here- Their Spirulina tablets are unlike the granulation method which destroys Spirulina's nutritional potency of pure Spirulina powder by allowing only minimal exposure to lignaturopaths.

Spirulina is a rich, natural source of phenylalanine-slimmers; Spirulina effectively suppresses the appetite. Its whole food nutrition facilitates low-calorie dieting without the energy draining and health destroying nutritional deficiencies that are the downfall of most weight-loss programs. Spirulina satisfies hunger because it fulfills the body's nutritional and biochemical needs.

Virtually all multiple vitamin/mineral supplements today are laboratory-synthesized chemical compounds. Yet, according to internationally acclaimed author and nutritionist Dr. Paavo Airola: "It is wisest and safest to take vitamins and minerals in the form of food supplements where they occur in their natural form and strength, and in combination with all of the other nutritive factors such as enzymes and trace elements, for optimum assimilation and biological activity."

Dynamic Energy and Endurance Nutritionally enlightened fitness enthusiasts, body-builders, professional coaches and competitive athletes are reporting increased energy, enhanced endurance and other exciting performance improvements with Spirulina.

NASA considers Spirulina an ideal food to grow on space stations and has researched the possibility of using it on long-term space flights. It will become one of the first foods grown on the new Space Station when it is completed. It is one of the most efficient, oxygen-generating foods known.

Spirulina produces all its nutrients by harvesting sunlight. It gathers and transforms sunlight into green and blue pigments that make it a blue green algae. The blue is an amino acid group found only in Spirulina called phycocyanin, which accounts for its high concentration of vegetarian protein. The green in Spirulina is chlorophyll, one of the best natural detoxifiers known.

Spirulina is an extremely high energy food. It contains all the B vitamins, which are themselves synonymous with high energy. Energy derived from whole foods such as Spirulina and Chlorella are natural and will never leave you flat after their nutrients have been consumed by the body. Scientific studies world-wide have demonstrated the incredible health properties of spirulina.

Water, nitrogen, phosphorus, carbon dioxide and sunlight are all that is needed to produce Spirulina, one of the most nutritionally packed foods in the world, an absolutely astounding array of enzymes and other nutrients.

Spirulina has been eaten by many cultures throughout history. The Aztecs and Mayas used Spirulina as a central part of their diet. The Kanembu people, who live along the shores of Lake Chad , still use it today. NASA considers Spirulina an ideal food and plans to grow and use it on long-term space flights. It will be one of the first foods grown on the Space Station. Spirulina is one of the most efficient, oxygen-generating foods in existence. It is extremely easy to grow and takes less room per cubic centimeter than any other crop known, yielding an enormous amount of nutrition.

Spirulina and Chlorella are ideal foods to feed a starving world. They have been used in Third World Countries to relieve hunger with great effectiveness because they are inexpensive, nutritionally compact and not given to quick spoilage.

You will never find a better nutritional buy anywhere on the market than you will with both Spirulina and Chlorella . Ounce for ounce, your dollar goes farther toward providing the body with proper nutrition than any other foods available. There are a lot of different Spirulina brands on the market. A rule of thumb is to only buy Spirulina Pacifica that is Certified Organic , ISO 9200 (international standards) and Certified Kosher.

    What is Chlorella?

Chlorella is a green algae. The name Chlorella derives from two Latin words meaning 'leaf' (green) and 'small', referring to the unusually high content of chlorophyll (the highest of any known plant) which gives Chlorella its characteristic deep emerald-green color. Algae are a group of one-celled plants, containing no true root, stem or leaf. This particular fresh-water, single celled microscopic plant contains a host of health building nutrients. In addition to chlorophyll it contains vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, nucleic acids, amino acids, enzymes, CGF (Chlorella Growth Factor) and other substances. Under the favorable growth conditions of strong sunlight, pure water and clean air, Chlorella multiplies at an incredible rate, the complete reproduction cycle taking less than 24 hours. Our Chlorella is produced in Taiwan by The Taiwan Chlorella Manufacturing Co., Ltd., the world's largest producer of Chlorella Pyrenoidosa.

Chlorella has been more thoroughly researched than perhaps any other food in history. There are thousands of research papers on Chlorella from medical institutions, scientific journals and universities. One of the most fascinating aspects of Chlorella is the CGF or Chlorella Growth Factor.

    Chlorella Cells

Chlorella has a number of properties which are helpful to organs and tissues that have been injured by a variety of causes. It has been demonstrated to promote liver health. It has been called the "great normalizer" putting body functions that are out of balance back in harmony. Although some positive effects of taking Chlorella may be felt immediately, such as correcting constipation and bad breath, Chlorella's full nutritive and detoxifying prowess will take 3-6 months to be fully appreciated. Chlorella belongs to a very small, yet powerful group of foods known as Nutraceuticals. Spirulina is also known as a Nutraceutical.

Both our Chlorella and our spirulina are very particular strains of algae. Our Chlorella is a strain of algae known as Chlorella Pyrensoida. From a single pure source, this algae has been reproduced for thousands of generations. This insures the integrity of the strain's purity will stay intact without degenerating. Many other producers of Chlorella and Spirulina do not pay close enough attention to their strains and experience "drift" in the purity of their algae. This problem is very much overlooked by many algae producers worldwide. Our Chlorella assures the absolute strain purity of our algae.

Chlorella promotes growth in young people, which is believed to be related to Chlorella's capacity to stimulate the healing process in the body and stifle many diseases. This is most likely related to its nucleic acid content because substances in Chlorella that accelerate growth in young people promote repair of damaged tissue in mature animals and humans.

Chlorella contains growth-promoting substances, making it valuable as an ingredient in breads and fermented drinks. If Chlorella extract is added to the dough before yeast fermentation, the visual appearance and flavor of the loaf is enhanced while keeping the bread fresher for a longer period. Chlorella can also be added to wine, cakes, cookies, cheese, ice cream, mayonnaise, pasta and rice to enhance flavor and nutritive value. Chlorella has a strengthening effect on body cells by strengthening our metabolic pathways. Chlorella has an abundance of RNA & DNA that are associated with anti-aging.

Mice that were injected with cancer cells showed a higher resistance to this challenge if they had been fed Chlorella. Other tests showed that the Chlorella growth factor improves resistance to abdominal tumors while increasing the number of immune cells in the abdominal cavity. Chlorella promotes cell reproduction, reduces cholesterol and increases hemoglobin levels. Because of its broad nutritional and detoxifying profile, Chlorella promotes the repair of bodily organs and tissues that have been injured or otherwise damaged.

Numerous research projects in the USA and Europe indicate that Chlorella can also aid the body in the breakdown of persistent hydrocarbon and metallic toxins such as DDT, PCB, mercury, cadmium and lead, while strengthening the immune system response. In Japan, interest in Chlorella has focused largely on its detoxifying properties--its ability to neutralize or remove poisonous substances from the body. The fibrous materials in Chlorella will also improve digestion and promote the growth of beneficial aerobic bacteria in the stomach.

Other research programs have indicated that regular use of Chlorella helps guard against heart disease, reduce high blood pressure and lower serum cholesterol levels. There is no other green plant on earth that is more beneficial to the human body and mind than Chlorella. As a perfect food, Chlorella has no peers. Analysis shows that Chlorella Pyrensoidosa contains a comparable variety of minerals, vitamins and amino acids to other algae.

Chlorella is a plant with 5 to 10 times the chlorophyll content of any other algae. Chlorella has a tough indigestible cell wall, which detoxifies the body by binding with heavy metals as it passes through. Sporopollenin, which is only present in Chlorella Pyrensoida, acts in the same detoxifying way. Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF), unique to Chlorella, causes the benign lactobacillus, which is crucial to digestion to multiply at four times the normal rate and also accelerates the regrowth of damaged tissue. This promotes rapid growth in children and builds our immune system perhaps better than any whole-food single nutritional product.

How is the Cell Wall Cracked?
The cell wall of the chlorella is cracked through the pressure differential method of rupturing the outer fiber shell rather than crushing it as other producers use. The pressure is raised in the holding tank where the chlorella is stored, and then suddenly the pressure is released.
